After our travels through Assisi and Siena, we made our way to one of the destinations our group was looking forward to most – Florence. With three birthdays in the group to celebrate, it was sure to be a big couple of nights.
We took a short walking tour on our first morning and then set off to explore the city. Florence is a very wealthy, opulent city – pretty obvious from the numerous gold shops and high end fashion boutiques. Still, it had great shopping (even for my budget) so we spent the morning wandering around the shopping district. The afternoon was spent sweating in a laundromat, washing all of our clothes from the trip so far. Not quite the glamorous side of Florence, but it had to be done.

Two of my surprise favourite cities came in the form of Assisi and Siena on our way from Sorrento to Florence.
The birthplace and home of Saint Francis of Assisi was a beautiful city, fully enclosed in medieval walls with gates that still shut at night to protect the town within. Fully surrounded by olive trees, there are 10 olive trees to every citizen of Assisi (which is a lot). The town was immaculate – I didn’t see a piece of rubbish anywhere and it was obvious that the residents were totally dedicated to preserving this city. The next stop on our tour through Italy was Sorrento, via Pompeii. We took a guided tour through the city and I’ll be honest – I didn’t know much about Pompeii at all before we arrived, so I can’t say I was overly excited for the day. Speaking to people in our tour group though, about half were most excited about Pompeii so that got me quite intrigued.

So, I’ve decided to split our Top Deck tour through Italy into smaller posts instead of one big one. To say I love Italy is an understatement – it is by far my favourite country so far and I’m so thankful we made the decision to explore it for two whole weeks.

Hi everyone, long time no blog! Sorry I have been a bit absent recently, we got back from our Top Deck tour of Italy only yesterday and it was very full on. I’ve managed to get this written out though so I can get started on the Italy post soon.
Barcelona seems like such a long time ago, even though it’s only been a few weeks. We headed off from Seville via train and arrived in Barcelona on June 2nd. I had heard great things about this city so I was looking forward to escaping the Seville heat and seeing what the second largest city in Spain had to offer. After our time in Portugal, we headed to Spain – first stop Seville. To be honest, I didn’t know
much anything about Seville, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I can hands down say that Seville was my favourite city out of everywhere we had been so far (including Barcelona – I’m sitting here in our Barcelona Airbnb just before we check out writing this down).
I’m sure you can tell by the amount of photos I have to share below, that I simply couldn’t get enough of Seville. Continue reading “3(ish) Days In Seville, Spain”
I’m trying to get up to date on the blog with our trip so far – thus the more frequent posts! Hopefully I’m not bombarding you all. I’m not sure what our wifi will be like for the remainder of the trip, so I’ll post as much as I can before we head to Italy. Be warned you might not hear a lot from us from the end of this week until we get back
to London on June 23rd!
So, on 25th of May after four days in Lisbon, we all jumped on an early morning (6.20am zzzzzz) bus and headed to Lagos.
Lagos is quite a small town (only the fifth largest) along the Algarve Coast and is most famous for its picture-perfect beaches, caves and grottoes (as well as its party-every-night atmosphere). We were all in need of some R&R after Lisbon, so were looking forward to some downtime chilling out at the beach. Continue reading “3 Days In Lagos, Portugal”
