Hello unemployment! This past week was my final week at work and now the countdown really begins to the big move.

It didn’t really seem that real until the past couple of days, when I’ve been packing away the last few things into storage containers and writing a list of what to take on the plane. I was wondering when it would hit me that we’re leaving – I thought maybe not until we reached the airport, but now that we aren’t working and the travel packs are out, it feels a lot more real than it did a week ago.   • One-way ticket to London is bought.
  • Visa is approved.
  • Bags are (almost) packed.

For about as long as I can remember, travel has always been on my to-do list. So many young New Zealanders have this itch to travel – perhaps because we are so far away from everything (the flight price proves it). We call it ‘the big OE’ – and while it’s been on my to-do list for a long time, it seemed to keep getting bumped down by other things. An extra year of uni was first, followed by working in Hamilton (a must really, trips don’t pay for themselves). A six month contract was extended to a year, then another six months, and here I am three years later, finally handing in my resignation letter. Continue reading “Hello”
